We are greatly looking forward to the EARMA Conference 2023, taking place in Prague, Czech Republic, April 24-26, 2023. Already, 1,300 of you have registered to attend this event, making it the largest EARMA gathering yet. In preparation for the EARMA Conference, we wanted to let you know about all the exciting activities taking place at the spacious Prague Congress Centre and around this truly beautiful city.

In this edition of the EARMA newsletter, you will find details of our keynotes, social activities, thematic group sessions, workshops, our newcomers' lunch and chill out areas. Also, read on to see how you could become more involved in EARMA.

We have an exciting selection of keynote speakers for you to enjoy.

  • Keynotes by Anna Panagopoulou, European Commission, and Ladislav Krištoufek, Charles University - Anna Panagopoulou, Director for ERA & Innovation at DG Research and Innovation, European Innovation Council, will speak to the EARMA audience via video. It will be followed by an interview with Ladislav Krištoufek, Vice-Rector for Research at Charles University Prague, who will discuss research management. This session will be moderated by Sarah Richardson of Research Professional News. It will take place Tuesday April 25, 2023, 09:45-10:45 in the Congress Hall at the Prague Congress Centre.
  • Morning Opening & Keynote Panel "The Future of Research Management" - Join us for this informative session in which we will hear from Dr Lidia Borrell-Damian, Secretary General at Science Europe, Nik Claesen, Managing Director at EARMA, and Stephane Berghmans, Director of Research and Innovation at EUA, moderated by Doris Alexander, Trinity College Dublin. What's coming up for European research managers, how will the changing landscape unfold? It takes place Wednesday April 26, 2023, 09:30-10:45 in the Congress Hall at the Prague Congress Centre.

We're looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help with the continued improvement of the Association and services to members. The Policy & Representation Committee (PRC) is for those interested in research policy and research funding trends globally. The Professional Development & Recognition Committee is for those committed to advancing the recognition of research management and administration as a profession. The Finance & Governance Committee (FAC) monitors the financial affairs of EARMA and the Awards Committee (AC) is for those dedicated to ensuring best practice with regards to awards and building an inclusive community through increasing accessibility. Social activities

When you are in Prague, why not take the time to enjoy one of the many social activities that we have available for our attendees. For those of you who have been to a previous EARMA Conference, you will know that the EARMA community is not only smart, creative and innovative but they are also extremely social. As such, we invite you to the most friendly and social EARMA Conference ever. In Prague, you will definitely extend you network and have a lot of fun doing so.

Thematic group sessions

EARMA's thematic groups are communities of practice on a selection of important topics relevant to research management. During the EARMA Conference 2023, we will have sessions on ethics and integrity, impact, post-award project management and Open Science. This article looks at what will be discussed at the Ethics and Research Integrity Officer Network (ERION) session, taking place Wednesday April 26 14:45-15:15 in the South Hall 1 at the Prague Congress Centre.

We recommend to all of our community to join one or all of these sessions to see if you would like to get more involved in one of these continuously growing thematic groups.

  • EARMAimpact: Does it make sense to join? - Meet with Andreas Westermoen, Petra Auer-Nahold and other members of this thematic group at this special session explaining what the group is about and why you should get involved. Mingle with the impact people. Find out about their goals and active working groups. Learn how to join. Feel the energy. This session takes place Tuesday April 25, 2023, 13:45 - 14:45 in the South Hall 2A at the Prague Congress Centre. 
  • EARMA Post-Award Project Management Thematic Group Kick-Off Event​ - Are you involved or interested in the management of research and innovation projects? Join group members in the formal kick-off meeting of the Post-Award Project Management thematic group. The group gathers PM enthusiasts eager to contribute to more efficient and effective project management of R&I projects. The session takes place Wednesday 26 April 11:15-12:15 in the South Hall 2A at the Prague Congress Centre.
  • EARMA Open Science Thematic Group Meeting​ - The Open Science thematic group will come together in Prague to discuss interest in future events, based on the ambitions outlined by the European Commission, the formation of Open Science sub-groups and a poll will be conducted. This is an important topic and all are welcome to get involved in this growing group. The session takes place Wednesday 26 April 13:30-14:30 in the South Hall 2A at the Prague Congress Centre.

If you are new to EARMA, let's get together and make new friends. Want to get the most out of the EARMA Conference? We have a great selection of pre-conference workshops for you to enjoy on Horizon Europe proposals, public speaking, market research and strategy, and pasta making. We have previously received positive feedback on our workshops and these added extras support our attendees to learn more in a targeted way.

Creative space - Take a moment to enjoy playful activities and make new encounters in our creative space. Feel free to enter whenever you are in need of a breath of fresh air. Also, we will be conducting a yoga session in this area. Join Head of Events and Yogi, Johanna Roodt, for some stretching, breathing and just being in the moment. Absolutely everyBODY is welcome. Relaxing space - Enter in a slow environment and take some time for yourself. Here you can find a space to gather your thoughts and escape the bustle for a while.
Escape room game - In this Open Educational Resources themed escape room, you and a team of colleagues will try to save your jobs by finding open resources to create a completely new module. Join us for a fun and interactive session, and learn more about how open educational resources are found, used and disseminated.
