Abstract
The Emerald Handbook of Research Management and Administration around the World (forthcoming) is the culmination of over two years of work, featuring work from over 50 authors, many of them EARMA members. The poster shows the structure of the book in five main sections:
§1: history (about 8 chapters)
The first section provides the historical context to lay the foundation of the subsequent discussions on RMA as a profession. How and when did RMA emerge as a profession? How were professional associations for RMAs set up and organized?
§2: mechanics (about 6 chapters)
The second section focuses on the mechanics surrounding those working in RMA. Who are RMAs? What do we do? Where do we work? What are our required skills?
§3: identity (about 6 chapters)
The third section explores the various issues surrounding RMAsʼ professional identity. What are our career trajectories and aspirations? What affects the way RMAs, scientists, and academic leaders perceive our profession?
§4: global trends (about 35 [shorter] chapters)
The fourth section provides regional comparisons and case studies from countries around the world to portray the emerging world-wide trends surrounding research management and administration.
§5: expectations (about 3 chapters)
The final section summarizes the expectations toward the future of RMA as a profession and discusses the policy implications both at the local and international levels.
And the poster will highlight some key findings.
The book will be launched later in 2023 and will be open access - freely available to all, thanks to sponsorship from EARMA and FORTRAMA.
