Abstract

Did you hear the one about the H2020 project called “ARCHIVE”? The PI kept moving the folder to the bin, and the data management plan was a nightmare!

This poster collects tales from the minefield of project shortnames and acronyms - those that are unpronounceable and vowelless, those that have meanings entirely inappropriate to the project topic, and the occasional unintentionally comical or offensive translation.

While these may entertain, there are serious learnings to be derived. In a world where the social media identity of a project may be critical to successful dissemination, and where project consortia are required to pitch their results as a joint venture, a poorly chosen project name can become a barrier to success. Lessons learned from our post-award community are presented as a cautionary guide to all proposal writers and supporting players.
