Abstract

International cooperation in research and innovation is a strategic priority for the Europe and the world, which is helpful to enhance the academic development, as well as to educate talents with a global vision, thereby further establishing the international reputation.

Taken Peking university (PKU) as an example, the first Chinese Comprehensive University has actively promoted the international research collaboration by taking diversified and flexible forms.

First, PKU has invested millions of dollars on selected major issues to vigorously promote international cooperation. Especially by utilizing a joint funding mechanism, PKU initiated comprehensive collaboration with partner universities to encourage university-wide faculty and student exchanges and to provide seed funding for joint research projects.

Second, PKU has actively participated in joint research and development projects funded by the governmental funding agencies, from which Ministry of Science and Technology of China and National Natural Science Foundation of China are the main sources of PKU. These projects are very competitive and creative, which help creating a solid foundation for conducting high-level scientific research, cultivating high-quality talents, and supporting cutting-edge academic developments.

Third, joint research institutes usually represent long lasting relationships, which play an important role in the international cooperation. Based on mutually beneficial strategic partnerships, PKU has set up joint research institutes to tackling our humanity's major challenges, such as Sino-French International Joint Research Center for Earth System Simulation. By actively and effectively utilizing the technological, intellectual and financial resources from international partners, many high impact achievements have been made.

The presenter will share the knowledge and best practice (within PKU) in Research Support, Promotion and Management to better serve the development of international cooperation, and also obtain the experience and best practice from the relationships with peer universities and institutions pioneering in this field.
