Topic: IT Systems and tools supporting RMA now and in the future

Abstract

As a large University Medical Center in the Netherlands we struggle with keeping a clear and up to date overview of (inter)national awarded grants. Benchmarking and performance analyses are difficult but needed in this highly competitive research environment. There are several databases for grants but these are operated separately by funders. With a group of other University medical centers and Universities we have developed a tailormade independent dashboard where organisations can combine information from various funders. In the platform that we have called “sciencebase” users can reconcile the organizational IDs that are used by different funders, thus helping the system to map identifiers to the correct entities.
The platform contains various visualization options, filters, and cross-sections of the data, thereby generating versatile insights in awarded grants and the ability to funding benchmark performance.
ScienceBase will be accessible across Europe, though coverage of funder data will differ but contain at least the projects from Cordis. The variety of insights gained through ScienceBase will enhance the usage of persistent identifiers for grants and funded projects, thereby contributing to the important move towards Open Science practices. For individual organisations the visualization can be used as valuable management information and to monitor the
performance of funding acquisition activities in time.
