Abstract

Research Management in Germany has come a long way, starting in 2003 as an informal network with 30 persons. In 2018, we had a database of 1.800 people on a mailing list. At that time we decided to establish a formal association, for reasons of legal aspects, monetary aspects, and some others. How did we come to that decision, which arguments were raised pro and con the association, who became a member, who didn’t and maybe why? What are the benefits for the members with a view to professionalisation? Most importantly: Did it turn out to be successful? (spoiler alert: yes!)
