Abstract

As his employer ETH Zurich offers this also for administrative staff, Karl Kerschbaum did a sabbatical in Research Management at the Lundquist Institute for Biomedical Innovation at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center for four months.
Next to presenting the experiences and results back home in Zurich, we decided to have as much outreach as possible in order to motivate the RM community. We publish an article in the NCURA RM Magazine and would like to inspire also the EARMA crowd.
It became evident that there are certain similarities and difference between research management in USA and Europe. Take away messages will be:
Networking -> have a host
Preparation of the Project -> have a plan
The Stay -> collaborate instead of visit
Outreach -> spread the word
