This presentation will give you insight into a training programme set-up for researchers that focuses on developing EU collaborative proposals for Horizon Europe. It is a well-tested concept on how to support and coach researchers from universities and hospitals who are interested in being a partner in or coordinating an EU collaborative project. The programme, called “Towards Horizon Europe” (THE), has been implemented three times since 2020 with more than 100 participating researchers across the five organisations behind the programme. The programme has been adapted and improved over the last three years. The programme consists of several modules combined with short wrap up sessions organised locally and of individual advice. The modules include peer and expert presentations with dedicated interactive break out sessions where the participants discuss their experiences, insights and learning with each other. This presentation will provide insights into the design of the programme, objectives, selection criteria of participants, how the content is selected and curated into modules and finally the follow up activities before, after and between modules. The programme is developed and implemented in cooperation between University of Copenhagen, Technical University of Denmark, Copenhagen Business School, Roskilde University, Capital Region of Denmark and Region Zealand as well as the regional EU office of Greater Copenhagen. The presentation will also present the direct benefits and synergy effects in general resulting from a broad cooperation and from the THE course, specifically. The takeaway messages are: • Best practice for conceptualizing a programme for researchers who want to apply for Horizon Europe collaborative projects and how other organizations can use and adapt our concept to their needs. • What we learned from joining forces across universities and regions and what research managers and administrators as well as researchers across fields have gained from a mutual training programme.
