Abstract
Masaryk University is the second largest university in the Czech Republic. Since 2010, it has been undergoing a dynamic development thanks to massive investments from European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF). This prepared the university well for the onset of “Widening” programme that started by piloting of ERA Chairs in 2013 and subsequently intensified in Horizon 2020 with the establishment of Twinning and Teaming actions. Masaryk University received funding for all the major actions of “Widening”, many in their first pilot calls. Thus, we have a unique perspective on how the actions support research and innovation in organization in target countries, and what are the challenges and pitfalls of the Widening actions.
I will elaborate on how dedicated and experienced RMAs catalyze success in Widening.
I will provide a practical perspective on the pathway from our institutional strategy towards development of Widening proposals, which actually resulted in funded Twinning, Teaming, ERA Chair and Excellence Hubs project in 2021/22 calls.
I will finish with learning outcomes highlighting (i) the role of RMAs in initiation and design of Widening projects and (ii) the benefits that stem from Widening actions for the RMA communities in institutions and countries that implement them.
Learning outcomes (take-away messages):
