Abstract

Whatever stage you are in your career as an RMA, you should always be looking to grow and develop your role. This not only makes sense for your employer, but also for you and your professional development. A bit like your bed or your shoes, we spend too long in our job to find it not a good fit or uncomfortable. If you can keep adding to your role, you will get greater job satisfaction and hopefully avoid getting jaded with the job; or worse, burnt out.

So let’s explore the Hows of Widening and Deepening of the RMA Profession in the context of career progression and development.

The Hows:
So how do we go about Widening and Deepening the RMA Profession, in a meaningful and substantive manner?
 Upskilling within the profession
 Seeking greater Mobility within the profession
 Creating new services within the profession to enhance your role and remit

I will look at achieving this through 3 avenues: The Professional, the Practical and the Pastoral.
What hard skills can we learn and what soft skills can we provide to each other as a community?
Some examples include, writing and language masterclasses, brainstorming sessions and, mentoring & support through a shared platform like Zoom.

Take Aways / Learned Outcomes will include a shared RMA Toolkit of resources where you can find details of courses that will allow you to upskill in areas such as finance and project management. I will also explore mobility options and list those. And finally, I will look to brainstorm ideas as we create and innovate new ways to widen & deepen the RMA Profession.
