Abstract
We would like to present the experience of enhancing gender equality policy through implementing sustainable structural change from a university perspective. Using the example of three responsible research projects carried out at the University of Gdansk (UG) thanks to Horizon 2020 grants: STARBIOS2, RESBIOS and MINDtheGEPs, we highlight the key steps taken to implement the gender equality policy at the university and bring about structural changes that will ensure sustainability. We show the evolutionary path that UG has followed, from learning about and implementing a responsible research and innovation (RRI) policy at the level of one faculty, to reaching out to the university level, to becoming a mentor on gender issues and organising mentoring sessions for other learning partners in Europe, to developing and implementing the own institutional Gender Equality Plan (GEP), and to continuously consolidating changes in the approach to the concept of gender equality. Learning outcome: Implementing gender focused activities in order to obtain long-term structural changes on the institution-wide level was possible due to the united efforts of a complexed project team consisting of members of different UG faculties and units.
