Abstract
Recognizing the growing necessity of demonstrating research impact, Elsevier and Utrecht University are collaborating on a pilot project with the Faculty of Science, based on Elsevier’s new product stream Impact AI. This joint initiative aims to harness generative AI to improve the analysis of complex qualitative data, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and more effectively convey the importance of scientific research.
The Faculty of Science at Utrecht University, like many such departments, faces challenges in effectively analyzing and presenting the societal impact of their research, particularly when handling large, qualitative datasets. By leveraging Impact AI, this pilot project seeks to generate impact biographies for up to six researchers, highlighting the societal contributions of their work. Elsevier will be sourcing information from Scopus, PlumX, Overton, and other databases to create comprehensive narratives that illustrate the value of academic research through advanced AI-driven insights. The initiative will also incorporate links to relevant external data sources to further enrich the biographies, ultimately aiming to solve the challenge of making the broad implications of their research more visible and impactful.
