Abstract

Three datasets from international surveys, RAAAP, RAAAP-2, and RAAAP-3, enable the analysis of the status of the research management and administration (RMA) from a broader perspective. These surveys provide insights into regional differences in the positioning of RMA, as discussed by Kerridge (2018) and Poli (2023). This paper explores “job sustainability” by focusing on the employment types of RMA from a regional perspective.

Globally, the proportion of fixed-term employment in RAAAP-2 and RAAAP-3 is almost the same at 14%. In Scandinavia and the USA, the proportion of fixed-term employment remains unchanged between RAAAP-2 and RAAAP-3, at less than 10%. On the other hand, the proportion of fixed-term employment has increased to 30% in the Americas, excluding the USA. In the Asian region, the proportion of fixed-term employment in RAAAP-3 has decreased compared to RAAAP-2, but remains above 40%. These results suggest regional differences in the employment types of RMA have existed. In other words, this indicates that RMA may not yet be a sustainable profession in some regions.

At the poster session, we hope to discuss with participants the employment types, employment funding, science and technology policy, and the sustainability of RMA as a profession in your country.
