Format: Poster

Topic: 6. Responsible Use of AI in Research Management

Abstract

‘Due Diligence short form is required for this collaborator’. Back in 2000s, I would google to understand what ‘due diligence’ is. But today, I have some friends on screen that can help: Chat GPT, Gemini, Copilot, etc. This is predictable: AI is changing the way we do our work, and to me, it gradually shapes how I am growing as a grant administrator.

In LMICs context, working in research grants is not a field that people really know. Thus, becoming a Grants expertise would hardly cross one’s mind on their early career steps. There is no school that prepares you for this field, and people come to Grants Management from various backgrounds.

More than a simple search engine, these AI-powered tools can generate informative responses in an easy-to-read structure in just a click. They proves to be helpful if you need a grasp of anything, from terminologies, such as, TBM, CRO, Discovery research, clinical trials, etc., to general understanding about a specific funder or scientific topic. AI helps shorten training time required for a new grants person. This goes well if proper and customised guidance is in place, plus, regular reflection meetings to clarify newbies’ queries.

This abstract, however, is not yet able to optimise the use of any AI tools. But, predictably, and not to our surprise, that in the next INORMS, AI has gained enough input related to Grants Management that can benefit us as grants associates, and we may be using these tools routinely.

We plan to make a pop-up poster that includes:
(1) Updates/fun facts around AI being used in RMA;
(2) example questions with AI’s responses;
(3) space for readers’ interaction to the topic, for example, What’s next for AI’s use in RMA in the coming 3-5 years? What do you ‘chat’ with AI?
