Abstract
ERION: Discussing Ethics and Integrity in the context of Research Security
EARMA is the European Association of Research Managers and Administrators. In 2018, it established the Ethics and Research Integrity Officer Network (ERION) thematic group. ERION is an open community to discuss the practical and implementation side of Research Ethics and Integrity. It is a community of practitioners, rules and procedure experts, and its main purpose is to provide a forum for knowledge-sharing and collaboration in order to facilitate implementation of relevant policy and establishment of best practices.
One of the upcoming key challenges for the RMA community is research security. Recently, the EU Member states have adopted recommendations to enhance research security as part of the measures within the European Economic Security Strategy. The purpose is to encourage research to be open as well as safe, preventing undesirable transfer of critical knowledge, malign influence on research and ethical and integrity violations.
In this 30 min session, we would like to discuss the ethics and integrity challenges in research security. For example what are possible violations that can affect research security and how research organizations need to support researchers and comply with funders requirements. We will discuss the Commission’s recommendations and the international G7 best practices for secure and open research from: risk appraisals to physical and virtual safeguards to protect sensitive knowledge. Furthermore, we will dive into the question how research security will affect proposals and how the EARMA and INORMS communities can contribute.
