Topic: 4. Open Science

Abstract

Global initiatives continue to encourage open science practices and research transparency, yet universities must balance these demands with protecting sensitive research. This poster presents perspectives from both Digital Science, a technology vendor, and Swinburne University of Technology, illustrating complementary roles in fostering openness while safeguarding intellectual property, privacy, and critical technologies.

From the vendor’s perspective, Digital Science develops tools that help institutions comply with open science mandates, support transparent data sharing, research output tracking, and integrity monitoring. These solutions enhance research visibility while ensuring responsible metrics and open access compliance.

At the university level, researchers and research leaders face the challenge of promoting open science while managing confidentiality concerns in fields such as defence, health, and technology. Institutions must navigate the tension between openness, innovation, and national security.

This poster highlights how vendors and universities can collaborate to advance open science through flexible, responsible systems.
