Format: Oral 30 Minutes

Topic: 1. Building Better RMA services

Abstract

The integration of Research Information Management Systems (RIMS) in higher education and research institutions has become pivotal for enhancing research productivity, collaboration, and data management. This study investigates the adoption, utilization, and impact of RIMS across Southern African higher education and research institutions.

Through a mixed-methods approach, including surveys and interviews with key stakeholders from universities and research organizations, we analyze the extent of RIMS implementation, the challenges faced, and the perceived benefits. Preliminary findings indicate a varied adoption rate, influenced by factors such as institutional size, funding availability, and technological infrastructure.

Key benefits identified include improved research visibility, streamlined administrative processes, and enhanced compliance with funding and reporting requirements. However, challenges such as limited technical support, resistance to change, and data security concerns persist.

This analysis provides valuable insights into the current state of RIMS usage in the region and offers recommendations for optimizing their implementation to support the evolving needs of the research community.
