Abstract

The full realization of Open Science relies on the collaboration of various stakeholders across different institutions. A key element of Open Science is robust data management, enabling researchers to create, share, and use literature and data according to established standards. To support researchers throughout the research process, appropriate services and infrastructures are essential. While a few organizations have successfully implemented high-quality data management standards, many others are actively striving to achieve this goal.
IMDEA Nanociencia Foundation, a research institution specializing in Nanoscience—encompassing Physics, Chemistry, and Biology—emphasizes the broad and open distribution of scientific results in a non-discriminatory manner. As part of its Open Access strategy, the Institute has established an institutional digital repository to collect and preserve all of its scientific output:

This initiative serves two primary purposes: to disseminate research outputs globally without barriers and to reduce reliance on external providers for archiving and tracking scientific results.
The IMDEA Nanociencia Repository is a young digital archive that continues to enhance its functionality. This poster communication will share our experience in implementing an institutional repository within a small research institution focused on physical sciences. We will explore the principles of open science, challenges encountered, and the unique aspects of our journey, all aimed at making data FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable). We will also discuss strategies to encourage researchers to deposit their work, contributing to a more comprehensive and transparent research evaluation system. This initiative receives funding from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation throught the Severo Ochoa Excellence Award and FECYT-María de Guzmán 2021 call.
