Building up new RMA-talent: Mentoring from a “we” perspective
Conference
Format: Fifteen-Minute Discussion Tables
Topic: 1. Building Better RMA services
Abstract
Although we might seem like an unlikely pair for a mentorship—working in different languages, countries, and time zones, and at distinct Higher Education Institutions with varying research focuses—there are profound reasons we joined the EARMA Mentoring Programme Pilot. Mentoring offers a unique opportunity for growth, both professionally and personally. Through shared experiences, we gain fresh perspectives, build cross-border networks, and expand our skill sets. Despite the apparent differences, mentorship fosters deeper connections, allowing us to learn from each other’s diverse experiences. These processes don’t just provide immediate support; they contribute to long-term professional development, self-awareness, and confidence building. Our anecdotal evidence sheds light on the framework that makes this mentorship successful.
For those interested in either participating in or creating mentoring programmes within their organizations, understanding these building blocks is key. Formal or informal mentorship can accelerate personal and career growth, making it a valuable tool for anyone looking to thrive in their field.
