Beyond Transdisciplinary Research Challenges:
Designing a Model for Impactful Collaboration
Abstract
Transdisciplinary research is increasingly becoming the model of choice for establishing global knowledge designs used to confront large-scale societal issues that transcend national boundaries. Establishing such research collaborations is often a complex exercise as one must think beyond discipline specific, cultural and field specific boundaries. Full participation in a research project and a process that is designed to adhere to social transformation is at the core of inclusive methodologies and impactful collaboration. This means that all role-players should be involved in the full project life-cycle, from conceptualisation, co-creation, co-production and co-dissemination.
However, it is often difficult to show the evidence or evaluate the participatory processes during the transdisciplinary transnational collaboration to demonstrate beyond reasonable doubt that everyone was involved and can benefit from the project outcomes. This poster presentation is build on an article (in preparation) that emphasises the need to reflect on context-specific and team-oriented strategies and methodologies throughout the planning process, the start of the project, and its execution so as to mitigate challenges and advance collaborations that tackle global challenges. The presentation will highlight the key considerations and factors to keep in mind for research managers who need to initiate, support and further develop these types of project collaborations.
