The Support Hub
Enabling the Successful Management of Internationally Funded Research Projects at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health through interactive guidance
Conference
Format: Oral 20 Minutes
Topic: 5. Proposal, Award and Project Management
Abstract
Created by the co-authors to assist project leaders and managers at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH) in navigating the complexities of internationally funded projects, the Support Hub offers an innovative online one-stop-shop of illustrated, interactive roadmaps that guide its users throughout the various project phases. From inception (the proposal “Pre-Grant” phase), through award (the project management “Grant” phase), and closeout (the “Post Grant” phase), the Support Hub provides sustainable and successful research governance through the provision of tried-and-tested tools, templates, and best practices.
The Support Hub aims to simplify the grant management process by offering an online library of accessible templates and adaptable examples. These resources not only aid project leaders and managers in understanding and implementing best practices, but also make research management accessible to individuals who have limited experience in this field, whether researchers, scientists, or support staff. Users have fed back that their confidence has grown in the management of projects, knowing that the resources have been used by other colleagues and identified as a best practice.
In addition to its practical step-by-step guidance, the Support Hub emphasizes the importance of clear roles and responsibilities within a project. By establishing a common terminology and basis to understand research management, it facilitates effective communication and collaboration. As a result of this knowledge valorization, the NIPH benefits through the building of a project management culture at organisational-level with a focus on good governance, the minimization of risk, and positioning itself as a reliable recipient of national and international funding.
In conclusion, the Support Hub addresses the challenges faced by project leaders and managers in managing internationally funded projects. The ingenuity of the roadmaps lies in its interactive nature which empowers users to adapt tried-and-tested tools, templates and best practices for different types and sizes of projects. With commitment to sustainability, the resources provided will be reviewed and feedback regularly requested to continually enhance and update. The Support Hub provides comprehensive support, demystifies the research management journey, and facilitates effective collaboration to ensure successful project outcomes and the generation of impactful and sustainable benefits.
