Managing U.S. federal funding
Successfully managing the life cycle of an NIH research grant – a combined Administrator / PI perspective
Conference
Format: Oral 20 Minutes
Topic: 5. Proposal, Award and Project Management
Abstract
All sponsors are unique and the U.S. federal government has very specific rules and requirements. The authors collectively have many years of wide-ranging experience in obtaining and managing U.S. federal funding not only as pre and post award administrators for the principal investigators they support, but by having held the role of PI. By synthesizing and sharing the knowledge and experience gained as departmental and central office administrators, as well as project managers and trainers, the authors hope to de-mystify the life cycle of competing for and managing funding from the NIH and other U.S. federal agencies.
We will discuss how we weave together a collaborative and communicative approach to proposal development, post-award administration, and project management from NIH and other U.S. federal funders, leveraging our experience as research administrators and as principal investigators.
